Obituary for Jack Taylor Mason

Jack Taylor Mason passed away February 24, 2017 at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born March 6, 1933 to Lloyd Taylor Mason and Violet Garland Mason.

Jack graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee in 1955, and spent his entire working career as a professional engineer at J. R. Hoe & Sons, Inc. Jack, along with his Dad, was a founding member of the Rescue Squad, a member of the Lions Club for several years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Middlesboro from an early age.

He served with the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers from 1956 to 1958 in North Africa and the Middle East. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Gibson Mason. He married Pat Cowan Johnston on March 1, 2013, and her family became his family. Surviving family members include: son, Jeffrey Eldridge (Candace) daughter Jessica Eldridge, two grandsons, Jared Akers and Corey (Emily) Eldridge and a great granddaughter, Alex Akers. Three sisters-in-law: Lucille Freeman of Lafollette, TN, Jean Walker, Harbor City, CA and Mary Ruth (Truman) Frye of Carlisle, OH. Also surviving is a first cousin who is like a sister, Irene Garland Brooks and son Tom (Ann) Brooks of Leesburg, FL.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Middlesboro with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Zach Bay presiding. Music will be provided by Barbara Asher, Bonnie Daniels, John Parker and Mark Watson. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. at Harrogate Cemetery on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Pallbearers will be Jared Akers, Corey Eldridge, Jeffrey Eldridge, Gillis Elliott, Bo Hoe and Doug Howard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the employees of J.R. Hoe & Sons, Inc.
